Popped down to check out 'Panacea' today. All shipshape and dry, but burgee cord broken:miserable:

Anyone had similar experience and been able to repair? I guess we need stronger cords, or I should restrict flying the burgee to when I am berthed and onboard? No Forumites have spotted me so far!

The black string that came sewn into the burgee isnt really strong enough and I have know several to either come unstitched or for the string to simply wear through.

I have used a stronger peice of polyester multiplait and sewn it with whipping twine to the hoist side of the burgee. I put a wooden toggle at the top (and on the one on my boat, an englefield clip at the bottom) - that way putting in on an off the boat is a much quicker exercise.

Here is the special FDC one I "doctored" in this way; :D

spot on. Burgee's should not be left up all the time! Its etiquette dear boy!

Funny, I used to be really into Burgee and Ensign etiquette, but I've been flying around the south coast with a 'Confederate' flag as an ensign. Originally, in rebellion against loss of red diesel status for the past 5 years and only had one negative comment. :ambivalence:

Yep like this:

My forum burgee has done a runner too. Is 'hlb' still the preferred supplier?

Nope - Haydn wanted to retire and I volunteered to find a new supplier earlier this year. We did a big initial batch to pay for the embroidery setup, and people can now order them as one-offs as and when.

Contact details at http://www.ensignflags.com but they don't really have an online shop as such. Tell them you want a "YBW tipsy mouse"; they'll do any size but the standard one is 18".

Many thanks, I'm not surprised, Haydn was on it for years; well earned retirement. :)
