SIBS yesterday - I did the pontoons first (good move as it slashed with rain in the pm) HMS Newcastle is worth a gawp but the won`t let you have a drive as its "battle ready". Saw the boat I want (Succes 135 Ultra) and as usual there are some jaw dropping boats (ships) and some very odd stuff. The Optimum 60 is a floating office / house but not dear £250k for 1140 sq ft !!
It may be cos it was a Sunday but why to parents bring new born babies in push chairs to Sibs ? The wind on the pontoons was gusting strongly and how some prams didn`t get launched I`ll never know especially when a ferry came in and the pontoon bounced dramatically. The usual queues for the likes of Predator 85 etc and you can use last years show guide as all the stands are in the same place.

All in all a good day but take your own sandwiches (tuna roll £4.89 !)

Hmm, yes. We went yesterday and got to the pontoons just as the heavens opened (SWMBO having spent a couple of hours looking at essentials like sweat shirts, deck shoes etc), so we took shelter, along with other hoi polloi under a Princess gazebo. I thought they were suprisingly sporting about it, given that it must have made life quite difficult for them. Not ideal conditions when you're lugging a couple of young children around as well, but ours were suprisingly good.

Had a nose round the new 30ft Swordfish, which was nice. Interesting that it's powered by a waterjet (cue Gludy /forums/images/icons/smile.gif) and they reckon that if they revert to the original shafts configuration they will have to lose the second cabin 'cos the engine will have to go further forward. Not sure if a Fairey with jets will please the purists but I have to say that it looked jolly nice and I want one.

Also looked round the Aquador 23, which is more realistically attainable by someone on my budget. I liked that also but still can't quite decide whether I want a hard top boat or not. Given the rain yesterday, a submarine would have looked like the sensible option but, masochist that I am, there's something about being out in the fresh air in a small sportsboat that I like. OK; so I'm insane. The debate continues....................

Yep, I was on the pontoons as the wind got up. Wouldn't have liked to have had the kids with me!

Have to say I had deja vu - everything in the same place as last year!

Disappointed that the Sunseeker Manhatthan 80+ footer on the pontoons was "invitation only". Last year it was appointment only, & we didn't come across it till 3pm, by which time all appts had gone. Thought we'd be clever this year and go straight to it and book! Oh well! (don't know why the bother bringing it if no one can go on it - must be a customers boat and cost them a fortune to bring it)

Rain was a pain - but on the plus side it mean time in the bar - useful chat with Irish fella who has owned boat I want and gave some very appreciated advice/tips. More use than most sales staff!

Best advice is head to pontoons first if early weather good, and work your way back!

I dont like to see kids in buggies on pontoons either. There was a terrible accident at a marina in Southampton a few years back when a small child drowned when the buggie went over the side with the kid strapped in it. Awful

Peculiar what you say about pushchairs being on the pontoons, because on Friday, I think, Hydropool (forumite) was trying to take his wife and child down to the Marina to see what he as MD had spent all his companies money on sponsoring for the event, and Security would not let him go down ramps with a pushchair?

This did however prompt a classic line from Hydro who is a terrific guy and not one to lose his cool, "What do you mean I can't get down into my own Marina!" made me chuckle that one.

Thus if he sees your post he might get even more excited.

Lots of 'em (pushchairs, not dogs) on the pontoons on Sunday. Most of the security staff on the entrance to the pontoons were, ahem, not long out of pushchairs themselves, so p'raps didn't feel confident enough to stop people. I wouldn't have taken a pushchair down there myself, but luckily my kids are well past that stage - they're now at the age where they give you heart failure by looking as if they're going to leap into the water instead. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Didn't see any dogs, however, other than the usual selection of Southampton's fairest daughters [runs for cover].

Went yesterday as well. Caught the RedJet from Gosport - good service although we spent most of the return journey on one of its (twin) hulls /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Lack of crowds all day seemed to make access to boats easy. Will definitely choose Monday next year!

Loved the Elan 35 hard top - I want one, I want one, I want one!
