I went down today, only for about 4 hours this afternoon, really enjoyed it. There wsnt a lot of people around which was quite good as lots of space to walk around and view the boats. I was told it was a lot busier in the morning.

Ive only been going for a few years but each year the boat I always view is the SC35 (partly because its one of the first ones you see when you walk down the ramp) but also because its probably the boat I would like to own one day, impressed with the retractable fabric roof, lets lots of light in when fully opened.

Anyway, walked past the Suzuki Experience stand and was asked if I wanted a ride out, so duly obliged, great fun. The pic here has the QM2 in the background.

Also had a look at the Bav 29 and the Windy Khamsin, wasnt that impressed with the internal quality of the Bavaria but seemed a decent price.

Arrived about 30 seconds after these boys moored up and going by all the comments from the onlookers they made a real hash of it. Just goes to show even some of the best can get it wrong sometimes!

Finished off the day with a free beer on the MDL balcony with the sun shining, perfect. :D

That looks like one of the noddy boats they take students out in to pretend to be baby Naval officers. I hardly think "some of the best" applies :D

How do you think the canvass roof will fair over time getting weathered & folding up all time ?
Like say in 5 - 10 years bet it would be costly to re do.

I don't think it is the same material as the canopy, more a vinyl base, that I think will be quite durable. The stitching does not have the strain of a canopy either, and it is usually this that hide way first in my experience.

Thought they were going to have the Windy Maestro, but I'll find out tomorrow.
Agree with you on the SC 35. Not personally my choice of boat, but I think it is one of the best boats of the last many years.
It seems to scale better to some lenghts than others, but I'm not clear why.

£1000 would be cheap, but on a s28 in general u will be unzipping and folding away nicely when its warm.
Not pressing a button on any given opotunity of it been dry to let light in whilst still been out of the wind chill
Whilst the roof is all rinkling up every time.
All I'm thinking is a little bit like the crease marks work hardening after a few years & crappy English winters.
Can't imagine it would be a easy job to replace.

I've not had chance to see one myself yet, but a friend has and said it was like double skinned canvass ?!
Not sure of model of boat, but like anything new only time will tell I guess.
I'm not against them by any means all for them just interested from a 2nd hand buyers point of view & engineering.

Okay, lets assume 2k every 6-8 years.
It still pales into insignificance compared to overall running costs.

I don't think it will be £2k. I paid a lot less for a complete 2 part canopy with new front frame for Rafiki this year. I agree this is minimal cost compared with mooring, depreciation, fuel, maintenance, electronics upgrade etc. My concern with the SC35 is the accessibility of the engines, as if they have to take an engine out, there is some serious structural hacking around first!

Not a concern.

See the Sc35 at Port Solent that had both engines and outdrives out. Partial sinking? Not sure.

Amyway, some deck and furniture had to be unscrewed, not a DIY job, but the angle grinder was not required as far as I could see.

It all came apart like Meccano.

There were two of those in the Thames Estuary during the Olympics along with this

It is actually very easy to replace. It slides in to a channel at the back, has poppers along each side all the way to the front where it is pinched between the window frame and a plastic strip which are held together by some screws.....

Correction! It's not the window frame as I said above, it's pinched in to the sliding piece of grp that slides back when the roof is opened...

There is a great way to share the photos from your phone instantly or just upload them after too...

If you "attend" the event, then all attendees will get to see any photos that you take at the show. It's really simple to use and very powerful.

This is a great way to see the photos that are taken at SIBS. You can also use this in private for family events etc. which is awesome as it automates photo sharing.

I'll be posting from Tuesday to Thursday, can't wait :-)

While it is a great facility do go careful with it. Aside from eating data from your contract, if it's left enabled you may find you've uploaded some more private pictures to a public gallery.:o:o

It's fairly foolproof and warns about mobile data use etc.

Three One Plan and Giffgaff both give unlimited data but in the G+ app you can specify to only upload while charging, on wifi only etc.

There is a permanent notification icon in the notification area telling you that you are in party mode, hopefully no private pics uploaded :-)
