SIBS Reports anyone?

Re: Yus I have

Friday & Saturday. It depends what you want but I thought it was as good as any I can remember. They've moved the Irish elixir stand along with the Sunseeker extravaganza but most of the layout will be familiar.

The pontoon area is bigger than ever and the layout almost keeps the general boat types in zones. There's a few real beauties if you like traditional boats.

Highlights for me would be.

The enthusiasm of the Slovinian guys who refloated the Westerly Brand. Actually refloated does them an injustice. They've fired it of a steam catapult. With a completely off the wall mix of hi-tec, high build quality and funky finishes that gives the old GK34 a performance boost and a really cool new image. OK I'm not sure about the silver decks but nothings perfect.

I was equally taken with the new Broadblue 385. The one at the show has a very habitable interior with a workmanlike cutter rig. The only draw back I could see was the helm seat was short a footrest. I checked out a few of the cats at the show and this one looks like great value at around £170k.

If you get the chance get yourself onto the Nordhaven 47. It's alright, it's big and flash but they're not stuffy. This boat has something for everyone, even people who are dyed in the wool sailors with no ambition to own a destroyer. The "something" is fantastic build quality and attention to detail. If they're not busy ask for a look behind the switch panels. Now that's what I call wiring.

You should check out the K&M 56ft ali. thing on Berth 308. You can play find the gear shift.

Yup! The best BoastShow ever!

I found a wee tent that dispenses free gin-n-tonic, with lime and ice, and after a while thought better of marketing wonks. Except there were a lot of yottie journalists there, and Tim Bartlett as well.

A little later, I was accosted by a couple of 'marketing lovelies' who whooshed me into a room in the Holiday Inn. No, I didn't make my excuses. In the interests of research, I stayed - and got paid for it!

I and some others were plyed with coffee and biscuits, and asked to talk about boats for half-an-hour or so. The observing psychologist confessed he'd been asked by the Hydrographic Office to 'find out why they do it' - but he was confused by all the dirty talk of pilot books, COSPAS-SARSAT, and single-handing. He stumped up £20 each for the pleasure of being a non-participant.... I know it's public money, and they could have got a better result with a questionnaire on their stand, but what the hell! Guinness stand, hello! ( but £3 a pint, and stuck out in the container terminal somewhere! )

No-one was checking rucsacs, which was mentioned to the police. They showed zero interest, stating that security was the responsibility of the security company. Their staff seemed comprised in its entirety of 18-something pimply, weedy yooths. About as much deterrent as Sooty and Sweep!

That's the first show in several decades where I've shown a profit at the day's end! So I'm going back again.....

I went yesterday (Sunday) and it seemed quieter than usual, so it was easier to get around and see people. We were even able to find a seat when we stopped for a snack.

We looked at several boats and the new Sadler is very tempting!

We also went on the Beneteau stand (Yes, I know!). Admittedly it was getting late but there were a dozen reps hanging around and just 2 customers (us). To paraphrase; never in the field of salesmanship was so little done by so many. That's Beneteau off the list!

We had a long and very interesting chat with a chap on the Coast Guard stand. It was certainly interesting to hear about it from their point of view. I'm even beginning to change my mind about getting a DSC set!

SHMBO liked the Plymouth G&T which everyone seems to have found!

Next years Almanac for the channel at just under £20 wasn't too bad.

Apart from that why do salesmen have to bullshit so much? It really puts me off. On one stand I was looking at a DSC set (see above!) and I was just listening to complete claptrap. I ended up showing the guy how to operate his own product!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
