Siamese transducers?

I want to install a Nasa target echo sounder so that I can have a depth display in the cockpit. I already have my old Seafarer which is mounted in the cabin. My Sadler 26 has only one small area under the forecabin bunk where the transducer can go, so I would have to put the new transducer hard up against the old one. Are you still there? Is there any chance the transducers might interfere with each other, electronically that is?

Do they use different frequencies? If so you are probably OK but if not they will pick up the echos from each other. Do you really need to keep the old instrument, if not then you can avoid making a new hole in the hull, which is not a good idea if it is very close to another hole, with the possibility of a crack developing between the holes if the area is highly stressed.

Why not fit the NASA echo sounder and buy a repeater for it. I have this arrangement using a NASA Clipper, the main unit is over the chart table and the repeater is in the cockpit. It has the useful facility of being able to have different shallow depth alarms set on each display. The chart table unit I leave set to go off when I have less than 0.5 metres below the keel and the cockpit one is set to whatever I want. This way I have one bleep to warn me when it's getting shallow and when I hear a double bleep it's time to take urgent action!

If you want a NASA Clipper Echo Sounder I have an unused one in original packing that I would be willing to sell.
