Hi all I replaced the pump which drains the shower tray on my princess. I put it in the same place as the old one ,which is in a cubard about 12 in higer than the tray. The only way i can get it to suck out the water from the tray is to put a hose in the drain plug turn it on and prime the pump, it will then drain the shower tray dry. Is there a valve i can put in the suction line to keep the pump primed or any other way i can solve this prob.Any help wbma thanks John

What sort of pump? If it's a diaphragm pump, as usually used for this purpose, it should self-prime without any trouble. If it doesn't, my first step would be to take the cover off and check that the two valves in it have been properly assembled (take pictures of the insides and post here if you're not sure). If you've ended up with a centrifugal pump, I suggest taking it back as it won't self-prime and it's also at risk of getting clogged with air etc which the diaphragm kind isn't.

I had this a couple of weeks ago and it was a loose connection in the pipework - just needed to take off and put back at jubilee clip to get a good seal. I'd been replacing the toilet outlet pipe and had probably knocked it while going through that world of fun.

So, I would check all the joints first, testing for suction as you go. After I'd bought the boat I did find the other shower drain pump had been reassembled back to front then screwed really tight, so it work but couldn't prime properly.
