I have one of those shower boxes, the ones with a bilge pump and float switch fitted inside, all the water from the sink, the shower and an overflow from the fridge. however it always seems to spit out about half a cup of water every hour and its marking the side of the boat. I am fairly sure the water is coming from the back of the fridge freezer what ever it does to keep cool its dripping water.

I had a new fridge put in and it is still happening so it cant be a fault in the fridge, has anyone heard of this before?

The other way to get rid is to put a bigger shower box does anyone know where I can get one from?

Thanks

fit one of the whale non return valves as close to the outlet of the box as possible, this usually cures the problem of keep spitting a little water out as the little flap valve in the boxes usually allow enough back flow to kick the pump in again due to the skin fitting having to be high up to prevent sea water entry, and you keep getting the contents of the pipe back in each time.

no its due to the condensation from then freezer if put a one way valve it will put the water out and it will sit in the pipe, the box isnt the problem its the fridge, a bigger box may allow more water to go in before it spits it out

thanks anyway

Is your problem merely that it spits every 30mins and is marking the boat? In which case you could jam or glue a 2 inch bit of hose into the outlet on the side of the hull, so the ejected water doesn't touch your hull

Out of interest what make and model is your fridge/freezer? I have fitted lots of waeco, isotherm & a few engels over the years and have never known of one to need a drain pipe for condensate. as with domestic units it usually just evapourates, it sounds like yours is producing a lot of water, could this be down to poor ventilation as that is very important when installing a fridge?

Im not sure of the make I will check.

I did think about the pipe but thought on black gell coat it would look horrible but then the line looks horrible.

I think its well ventalated, there is nothing behind it.

I had a similar problem a few years back which I found irritation because the pump would go off every hour or so during the night. Unlike you I had nothing running into the sump during the night. The theory from this forum was that water was collecting in the 'corrigated' tubing and working back down to the sump and 'switching' the pump to activate. One suggestion was to raise the sump which I did by about 4inches, not totally sure why it worked but it did for me.
