I've got a chromed ½" BSP 90° Female Tap Connector with swivel to Male ½" BSP on the outlet of my vertically mounted shower mixer to turn the horizontal outlet into a vertical one, pointing down. There is very little space for this, and since I fitted a new mixer, the shower hose is pushing the mixer off centre.

With a bit of PTFE tape, I think I could get away with a non-swivel elbow, but I can't find a chrome one, only nickel: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110963998067. Is nickel OK in a damp envorment?

Ok but wont stay bright and shiny like Cr. Much softer than Cr too

I don't believe this is always the case with compression fittings.

Maybe not, but I've found it so on every occasion I've used compression male threads (15mm = 1/2" only experience) to flexi pipes and the like, and I do it quite a bit, not ideal in a critical constant pressure situation but for a shower outlet will be more than adequate.
