Shout and be damned.

Re: Free gelcoat repairs

With a beam of only 3.7m I think I'll have to bolt on an extra hull to try your excellent technique. Mind you, suspect you're talking bolx if starboard is sorted you need to go starboard side to, which is probably why your port side is still in need of attention.

And you can stop editing your post on the fly...

I've found it just makes people more nervous and more likely to screw up.

Magic

Re: Depends

thats the art. Some statements don't require shouting but saying "Fire" in conversational tones is hardly effective.

A loud "STOP" once stopped me stepping onto a boat that had no deck planking. I didn't mind being shouted at.

I try to instill what is required in crews for various evolutions but sometimes you need instant action aor inaction.

I just think that being inhibited limits us.

Re: Depends

Precisely. What we're talking about here is high volume communication, which conveys authority and urgency, rather than shouting which simply implies agression or bad temper.

I'm not keen on shouting at other people but find it very productive to shout at oneself, especially when berthing single handed and managing to kick the throttle into tickover forwards after a perfect show up to that point.
