As winter approaches and we all start trying to run-up our heaters for the first time and find the hurricane lamp gives off more therms than the two grand piece of junk now just taking up locker space and has started working like a mini-metro fan*.

* mini-metro fan, 3 settings, fan gets louder or quieter but no more or less air is pushed into the car, never, even on a brand new metro** will it get hot!

** I only realised a few years ago that you could get metros brand new, I had always thought they were sold as a hanging piece of junk with 50,000 town miles on them!

What say the good people of PBO, good idea, not worth the hassle, bad idea?

If we had that, there should be a permanent anchor/anchoring subsection, along with one for batteries and charging /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And why not? It would make it easier to narrow down your searches.

I made a similar suggestion a year or so ago, and I still think that a Haine's-type manual for eberspachers would sell well. Any publishers out there want to take it on? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sounds like a good idea but it probably wouldn't work most of the time and there would be endless discussions as to why! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Dogwatch

Funny you should say that...

I have a thick file of printouts from the forum on heaters, and we're planning a big feature on choosing, fitting and running a diesel heater in PBO in the near future.

I have had hours on fun with an old Eberspacher when I lived aboard a motorboat in London. It suffered the usual problems of voltage drop and sooting up, so I discovered the trick of running it from a tank of city diesel ( better burn, less sooting) and keeping the battery topped right off. Happy days.

But a forum just on heaters? Well, how about a technical area within the PBO website itself, where we can get the various suppliers/manufacturers to deposit their pearls of wisdom. I've also found a few interesting sites from liveboards who have finally reached the right combination of either solid fuel', or gas or diesel - and proper insulation/ventilation of the boat - all factors that add to the mix!

As you say, it's a big subject. Well over an inch of A4, so far, and there seems no end to the agony and ecstacy of owning a blown air heater!
