Having just bought new (to me) bigger boat with intention of going further afield I checked online for the MBM cruises.
Much to my delight one of the cruises fits in perfectly with my work rotation.

So I mention to SWMBO that I intend to apply for the two week cruise to France and that we have a lovely holiday together.

Answer ? "Well I've got a special dolly day booked in the middle of those two weeks". (SWMBO's hobby is dolls houses)
So that's it then. No two week cruise because of one "dolly day" !!
Doesn't seem fair to me.

Maybe I'd been deluding myself thinking we could enjoy a new boat together.
Is it time current SWMBO got traded in for one who can get her priorities right ?

I guess I must be most fortunate, I found a SWMBO with a fully functioning logic chip and a good navigator to boot, it seems a rare bird indeed /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe you found SWMBO while you were already a boater ?
Met mine a very long time ago before I got into boats.

Are they into Dolls house type stuff in France ? I wonder if I could persuade her that they have loads of dolls house shops ?

Strange I know but dolls houses are as important to her as your boat is to you. I have found thru bitter experience that pulling rank and insisting SWMBO accompanies me on boat when I want and she does'nt just ends in sulks and bad time for all.
Surely you can compromise and find a way for her to get back to the UK by ferry or air for her dolly day. OK you might be without crew for 2-3 days but I'm sure there'll be a spare MBM bod about who'll be happy to crew for you during SWMBO's absence
Go on, you know its worth the brownie points

It will get better with ageing, when I started Sea fishing it was "will it be ok if I go fishing on wednesday? then as the years went by it became "i'm going fishing on Wednesday" now it is "why do'nt you b-----er off and go fishing!!

I guess jou could say we met through boating, we both worked for a commercial fishing publication at the time.

BTW, I am not, never have been or ever will be French... How VERY dare you /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks.
Compromise is always good. Have been thinking along those lines as well.

Easiest would be to shoot across in the boat but obviously you can't guarantee the weather.

Can't you arrange for the dolly day to be re scheduled, cancelled or postponed?

Failing that do as Deleted User suggests. I kjnow from experience that changing swmbo is expensive but in my case the new swmbo is worth every penny!!

You've kept that quiet. Is that why you've been ignoring us on the forum recently? Otherwise engaged, eh?

Dolly Day?!?!?! Not voodoo ones are they?

You should tell her to stop playing with dolls at her age - imagine the stick she'd give you if you still played with your action man - assuming you don't! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

SWMBO is considering doing something about D day. Important though it is to her I think she can see the disparity of one days v two weeks.

Also she has not worked for years so that we can take imprompu holidays when the chance arises. Not much good to me if 1 day scuppers a holiday.
