Should I anti foul the reverse latch mech on AQ270 outdrive?

As title really.
I've sprayed the leg with a can of trilux, should I give a light coating to the reverse mechanism? It seems a good idea to stop things growing on all those fragile little springs and bits, but I don't want to gum the mechanism up.
