after lots of frustrating and fruitless phone calls eventually found somewhere to launch boat and leave car and trailer for a week ---osney engineering run by the friendly and helpful les----quickly found out why boatones excellent times and distances table finished at osney bridge----the upper thames is surprising empty with an extensive flood plain with no houses----we camped at at eynsham lock--lovely----pinkhill lock---small grassy area disapoiningtly surrounded by a jungle of stinging nettles---the trout at lechlade---free mooring and £6 for the tent ---and various lonely fields-- locations unknown----we tried to get up to cricklade but although we still had 2 feet of water under us we were eventually stopped by a fallen tree---we tried hitching a rope to it but couldn t pull it away---the water at the top is a crystal clear stream---saw a water vole and a hare----hadn t see either for years------barring a couple of reaches i have now done the dome to the top but i think the area above oxford is my new favorite
