Should Dylan be prevented from resuming his circumnavigation ...

Should Dylan be allowed to continue his voyage before finfing a nickname for Katie L?

until he has given Katie a proper nickname to carry on the "Slug" tradition.

(For what it's worth I thought perhaps something like the "Wellie" bearing in mind the engine arrangement, though I'm sure Dylan can come up with better than that).

Crack-on

I think Dylan should be given every encouragement to continue on his journey. Not being an east coast man I have really enjoyed seeing his comprehensive pictoral journey into the ditches but am now keen to see his treatment of the remainder of these Isles - whatever the boat name. :)

How about calling her the "Croc" after those sandal thingies that polarise forumites?
Then if someone sees her they can call out "It's a Croc!"

Let him sail, his last question here was how to organise his lockers! Just look at the origo tower he's building, it's like something out of close encounters. The poor chap's lost it and needs to get out on the water in something better than a wooden tray with a sail on.

Its the Duck Punts fault. Before he had a perfectly useable boat that was properly boat shaped it had a proper sail shaped sail.....ie a triangle. But oh no hang about just a moment. The new boat seems to be Punt shaped with no transom and have an oversized Oppy sail. I put it to you that Mr Winter is now stuck in Wells next to Sea all punted out. How long before the rudder become redundant in favour of an oar?

Also note that the new boat isn't kept on the water. I'm waiting for a couple of oversized fenders straped atop a Tranny with the new boat lashed on top........I think its Punt Love myself........

I for one am getting withdrawal symptoms from not seeing Dylan's fantastic videos of mud creeks, wildlife and yachts (and the occasional mobo) accompanied by his interesting unique style (in some circumstances he should be appearing on Grumpy Old Men :) )

I have bought all four dvds and they make great TV & I await the release of new ones

{No relation to or commercial intersest in KTL or DW just a fan of his work}

He must continue, urgently not matter the weather the name will come as the journey continues.

Untill you have sailed it how can you know its characteristics??

eager

eager to get under way

all the final details of the slug disposal have been dealt with

mooring handed over, insurance cancelled

at the moment

Katie L still lacks roller reefing - and therfore a foresail

Pastimo are going to give me a set of roller reefing in return for making a film about how to fit it

and I have yet to buy an outboard

I agree that the galley is a bit weird at the moment

the links between duck punt and Katie L had not occurred to me until you pointed it out

Mind you ... terrible weather this year so far

today was the first good sailing day for weeks

had a job in London

as for a nickname...

time will find one

D

It is even worse

You don't need to prevent him leaving.

He's in Wells now.

They have a saying that Wells will only let you go when it is good and ready

The slug is still there and is going to stay at least until the end of August

Both I and Kitie L are at home

so in some way I have escaped Wells

but by the back door

In theory I could pick up the journey at any point between Wells and Wainfleet without cheating on the circumnavigation

but you know.. North Norfolk is such a stunning place

I am planning on launching Katie there

it seems crazy to rush away

Dylan

PS maggies puppies will be ready to go in two weeks time - great boat boat dogs

one yellow dog and two black bitches and a black dog still to go

I would love them to go to sailors

Excellent - I'm thinking of fitting roller furling but don't know how to do it so tell them this could result in at least one sale as a result. Please include information on converting hanked-on sails to roller-furling (ie do I need to buy a new sail or can the existing one be adapted?)
