I recall Dan was looking for an Albacore, on the very reasonable grounds that he didn't want a Wayfarer, when the Osprey turned up.

That's his call. IMHO what he needs is a training course by and experienced instructor. Perhaps park the boat and decide when more knowledge and experience

Agree. (I still have bad memories of my sister's Lark from thirty odd years ago - and I'd never go near a 49er or a Moth...)

I sailed my Lark last weekend for the first time this year and loved it but very tippy for sailing on my own though in even just a F2 - F3 (but that is part of the fun, would never take it out without a wetsuit)

FWIW, i have taken no part in the Osprey chat but certainly does not seem to be a beginners boat to me - Enterprise or similar if it were me but each to their own

Just remembering a few duckings, mainly death roll or spinnaker frap up related. Happier in a Firefly or an Albacore. Conversely, they could be described as deathly dull downwind, I suppose

The Osprey is a very stable and beautifully well behaving boat, the best dinghy I've ever sailed and I've tried a fair few; it even put up with my club-fistedness !

Dan is just showing his exemplary taste.

Just stick with it Dan; but suggest that you both get used to the boats 'ways' and 'responses' and above all, at the mo, let / encourage ........ to 'get her sea / boat legs' gradually; before 'racing' off like a 'bat out of hell'

I think he might need something faster, it's a well known fact that biats become more stable when planing, and trapezes are more comfortable. So my old 14 (which is per chance for sale) might suit him. It's a lovely yellow which the ladies seem to like, with purple kite and smaller pink kite. Osprey is more a pipe and slippers design. (any boat is a good boat, just choose the right conditions)

funny you should say that.

My chum's Osprey came with a spare main with 3 reef rows, also we picked up an old abandoned Enterprise main for free, just in the right place at the right time.

He's never really sailed in his life apart from a weekend crewing on my 22' cruiser, but as he's a true artist ( in the romantic painting sense ) he simply fell in love with the looks and style of the Osprey - she's named after a gorgeous trapeze artist, as he has an eye for the ladies I expect that helped clinch the deal !

The Osprey planes happily and has a trapeze, - 1 each side.

I crewed a trendy new v expensive Int 14 for a racing series, slightly faster but very inferior handling.

With those colours described Stevie Wonder might be your best bet.
