I see on the BBC news this evening that someone has bought Shotley pier for £100,000, and propose to spend another £300,000 on renovating it.

I don't understand why. It rather sounds like this project is going ahead because the pier is old, and once it is renovated they will have to think of, or make, a use for it. It sounds like the old Packing shed at West Mersea, they renovated it, and now do not know what to do with it

I think that "locals" have bought it

Crabbing was mentioned

I heard that, but £400,000 for a pier for crabbing !!!!!!!

If the locals are going to find their £400,000 that is OK with me, but I bet they will try and get finance from the lottery or the government or somebody, no private individual would pay £400,000 for a crabbing pier

As far as I can see, there's been no report that anyone has bought the pier, only that people are trying to raise money to save it.

It hasn't even been offered for sale at £100k. It's been for sale for at least 2 or 3 years, started out for sale at £195k but didn't sell and was put up for auction, where it only got to £87k and was not sold. It's coming up for auction again, with a guide price of £100k.
