Morning all,

I'd like to have the 'custom made' nosewheel of my Wayfarer launching trolley shotblasted and galvanised. It's made of mild steel and every year I have to wire brush and paint it, and every year the rust comes through.......

Any suggestions as to someone in Colchester / Ipswich / Chelmsford area that could do this?

TIA

I don't know specifics for your area, but try a local firm of agricultural fabrication engineers (blacksmiths). Many of these have stuff going away regularly to be galvanised and will happily add your bits to their load. They get a much better price per kilogram (usually 80p) rather than the £2+ you'll be quoted direct from the galvaniser, but either way it's still cheap. They also will probably be able to do the shot blasting which strangely isn't the case with many of the galvanising firms if you go direct.

I suspect Motorsailor's advice is good.
I recently took a dinghy launching trolley and an anchor to S E Galvanisers in Witham. The guy on the gate took a quick look and did the tooth sucking thing and called his foreman. Said they would have to send it away for shot blasting and it would take at least six weeks, better if I got it blasted myself.
I couldn't be bothered so just kept painting it.
I will try the fabrication engineers idea now though.
