Short stay marina Oban

Glad to see that the very lovely Argyll & Beaut Council has granted PP for this development.

I'm sure it was my letter that made their minds up!

You and me both. They'll no doubt be a-rubbin' their hands in glee at the prospect of all those wealthy English yotties who wrote so fervently in favour of the pontoon, turning up en masse now. As reasons for going back to Oban come, that one has got to be the most contrived! "We'll have to take the boat up to Oban this year dear. It's a matter of honour, I promised the council I would use the pontoon if they built one." :D

Are the pontoons back on? The last I heard a few months ago was it was thrown out.

Yes.
Like Ken I put in an official (electronic) letter of support, saying that I thought they were a good idea and if they'd been there when I sailed in Oban last, I'd have used them. The council have sent several letters advising us of progress since then, and early this week one came through saying that that the proposal had been given the go-ahead.

If it's like all the other Lottery / EU / Other Public Body funded pontoons that have been put in on the west coast to boost tourism, I'll give it 2 years before to locals and commercial fishing boats take it over completely leaving no transit berths.... Not that I'n cynical of course!

I do hope I'm wrong.

Argyll and 'Beaut'. Council, I think you flatter them.
BTW. All the Council have done and intend to do is grant Planning Permission, the developers will shortly be approaching all of those so much in favour to help with the funding.
Argyll and Bute Council regard yachties as the scum of the earth, sometimes I think they may be right. They do not like anything that involves possible expenditure on anything other than staff salaries and councillors expenses, they still have a few litter bins here and there but are trying hard to curb such extravagance in these straitened times.
