I am having trouble with my shore power RCD tripping every time the power lead is disconnected and reconnected, or if any other interruption to supply. I have to press the blue button on the RCD to restore power. The boat is a 2005 Dufour 34, the electrical panel is made by VDO, the RCD is a Legrand 248 50, 230V, 16A, 30mA. The unit has 2 buttons, the blue to restore power and a red to trip the power.

I spoke to Lagrand in Birmingham and they have no record of this type, possible made in France for the French market only?

I explained my frustration, since I would be annoyed to have to reset my RCDs at home after a power cut, but this is not necessary. Looks like the UK domestic type are passive, while my boat one is an active type (tripping on loss of power). This may be for safety?

Alternatively, it has a fault. Would appreciate any help as to how these should operate.

No I wasn't. I just stole his photograph since I forgot to take a picture of mina while at the boat yesterday:) Is that frowned upon.
Many apologies for that to you cookjwm.

Sorry, no criticism intended. I just wondered if it was the same person having a different problem or a different person who might find it useful to contact the first OP ...

Considering the RCD measures power out and in and trips if there is a slight imbalance it may be that there is some factor of how you connect that trips it. I am assuming that it stays on when reset after connection. The simple way to check the RCD is to swap it for one that works if it trips it is the system if it doesn't then it is your RCD.
