I have a great cable supplied with my boat for connection to shore power. But it's too short and I am trying to find somewhere where I can buy some more.

I've looked on the web and can't find a stockist in the UK for small runs

I am trying to get 20 - 25meters of

Pireflex RNF 255-3G4 (it could be 364).

It also says USE <HAR> (where < is a triangle) don't know if that's relevant

I know it's made by Pirelli and is defined as heavy duty flexible rubber marine cable (obviously three core)

Any ideas?

Martin

this sort of cable is used on building sites. any electrical wholesaler will stock it. ask for 240v site cable. the yellow stuff is for 110v, you want the blue one.

cheaper than marine suppliers.

The Blue cable is known as arctic cable, guess it's because it stays flexible in very low temperatures down to -20c. I bought a 100 metre drum in B&Q a couple of years ago think it was only around £20 ish.

If you want same

go to the outlets serving the builders - as in another post .....

If you want a normal power cable used by the masses and capable of looking after you for years to come .... Caravan shops sell HD cable designed for outside use and with plugs / sockets already fitted ...... from 10 up to about 30m.

Me - I buy the same orange HD cable from B&Q / caravan shop and fit my own plugs obtained ..... yes you guessed it from the caravan shop as well.

Now the cable that I used for years in the marina - before they bowed to pressure and installed power points at the berths ..... was a 100m drum of HD house mains cable ... cut tolength and the rest used in the shed, garage, etc. etc. .... even made up a short handy section for the odd times that you don't need all that 30m's ....

Yep - there will be 100's out there aghast at my lack of electrical understanding and use of totally unsuitable items .... OK maybe I am lucky ..... but that must mean that all the others in the marina who had been doing the same for god knows how many years were all wrong as well !!!!

Special marked cable ....... get yer bank-book out
Alternative HD unmarked cable ......... you've probably got enough fivers handy to get enough !!
