Hi guys

Purchased a Lesiure 27 recently.i have shore power from a 240 lead and rcd extension lead. This is fine for powering tools and such but I’d like to have the boats electrics powered on for the lights and stereo and other bits while not using the engine.

currently have 2 x 90ah Delphi batteries. One is for the engine only I believe and the other for leisure with a switch to put them both on.

For a quick fix could I just connect a ctek 10amp smart charger and have this on charging the battery and operate the boats electrics.

This is exactly what I do if lucky enough to be somewhere with shore power, or on occasions when running the generator. My charger also has a power supply mode giving a constant 12.8v, but I’ve never had reason to use it that way - not sure when I would.

For a non- fixed shorepower "installation" consider a campsite hook up lead such as this one:- MP3766 USB 230V 13A Mobile Mains Power Unit - Maypole which incorporates a circuit breaker and an RCD
( I'm not recommending this one specifically. Shop around if interested. They come with or without USB sockets but choose one where the 13 amp sockets are side ways on, so that the leads dont interfere with the next socket , not all in line )

With a lead like this you can plug in a portable battery charger to support/ recharge your battery while also using other mains electrical equipment ... all with the protection of a circuit breaker and RCD as you would have in a fixed installation

I would fit a Victron charger. For little more then a 10Ctek you could fit a 15a Victron charger with three outputs, so you would be charging both batteries, and be able to monitor and control the charger using a Bluetooth phone or tablet.

For example: Victron Energy Blue Smart IP22 Charger 12/15(3) 230V UK - BPC121544022 - Battery Megastore
