Is there a favourite waterproof socket that can be fitted to the front/rear of the boat so that you can just plug the shore connection in without the wire passing through the hatches?

Many thanks.

My socket is the normal type and fairly well shielded. An Island Packet 46 I was on had a row of sockets with chrome lids that screwed on exposed to the weather that seemed to work, so they must exist.

I have one of the type shown flush-fitting with a flap, it's on the side of the cockpit below seat level. Perfectly adequate but had to buy a new one recently as my big feet broke the flap hinge. Avaialble on fleabay much cheaper than elsewhere, I found.

Thanks for all your help. I think the Hubble with the screw cap is what I was thinking of, better for watertight sealing.

Plugs/sockets, wouldn't think I'm a marine engineer, (MN), with close to fifty years at sea, would you?

There does not seem to be on the market any properly waterproof bulkhead plug with cover that takes a standard 16a shoreline socket. Those suggested above are either unprotected, splash resistant only, or take special (i.e. expensive) cables.

Anyone know different?

OK Ill put my work hat on!

About the best rating that you will get in industrial plugs and sockets is IP67
this is Immersion up to 1 m, however this is normally only when the conector is mated. The exception to this is a Cee Norm 2485 or 2638 that have a cap to go over the pins when not on use

According to the photo of the pins that wouldn't fit my shoreline cable. Have you ordered matching sockets for your power cable too ? Or am I missing something ?

Boo2

Ordered the lot, so shouldn't be a problem. I think with the screwed cap it should be fairly waterproof. We'll see in four weeks time when I get home again. Off to the balmy North Sea tomorrow:rolleyes:

Thank you for that Magnette, nearest to fitting the bill if I can find a stockist. Would ideally prefer a flush(er) fitting though.
