just returned from a months cruise of scotland in my hurley 22
used the mariner6 outboard for a total of 12 hours,on the last day it started to give me high voltage shocks through the twist grip.had to insulate the throttle with wads of dry clothe to be able to touch it.have looked for obvious signs of shorting around coils and plugs to no avail, any ideas...... thanks to all replies, yes it does run slightly rough sounds like one cylinder, and no its definitley not static.

Sounds of should I say "feels" as though you 've a HT short somewhere..
Probably intermittant or it would n't run at all...
Don't know the motor so cannot suggest anything specific.
Just work logically through the HV circuit... Check for shorts from the plug lead etc. with a meter to earth...
Good luck intermittant faults are usually the most difficult to locate!!!!
Cheers Bob E...

Didn't we have the same, or similar, question on Scuttlebutt a couple of weeks ago? Might be worth a trawl....

Same poster and same advice given then - HT problem - run it in the dark and look for tracking....

Could add try removing each plug cap in turn and see which one has little effect on the roughness - one will stop the engine (the good one) the other will have little or no difference - that is the duff one - completely disconnect the duff coil and see if the shocking experience is cured - if so replace that coil with a new one - it could be tracking internally so no visable signs.

Sounds like a great trip, I had a Hurley 22 a couple of years back, which I had for around 4 years. She was a lovelly boat, I am very jealous of your cruising, I am too busy to even get away for weekends at the moment!

Got any pictures of your adventure and fine vessel?
