Whilst changing the anode on the prop shaft at the weekend I got a small electric shock from the prop. It was like a sting so I'm guessing 12v and only a few amps. As it was just before we left the boat I didn't have time to fully investigate. The anode was not abnormally eroded.

I have a problem with the wind read out which may be down to poor earthing, I'm still investigating.

Does anyone think they are related and if not how best to trace the problem?

Thanks

Whatever it was, it wasn't a few amps you you wouldn't be typing!

Was there lightening about?

[1] milliamps

A few milliamps only or you would not be telling us about it!

Was the boat connected to shorepower/mains electricity at the time. If so you may have a serious fault that needs investigating with urgency. If not then may just have been static.

Check all connections if your are having trouble with any equipment would be the first thing to do.

If you think you have 12 volts on the prop ... relative to what? What else were you touching or standing on. Check with a meter to see if the prop is positive or negative. If negative then be looking for a leak from positive to whatever else you were touching/ standing on. If positive be checking the negative connection to engine etc and looking for a leak from positive to the prop.

I think you would have to be very sensitive to feel anything from 12volts though.

Mast up? atmospheric electrical activity and you became the final link to earth of a lightning conductor. Could have been millions of volts and thousands of amps but all you feel is a sting! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
