I purchased my yacht some 3 years ago and thought that I had sent off the necessary forms. But recently have failed to locate the paper work. Knowing my lack of organisation, I think I may of overlooked the change of ownership. Where do I go from here, any ideas. Rob

If you didn't do a Part I registration (and you'd certainly remember if you did - apart from remembering all the hassle it involves you'll have the registered tonnage of the boat carved into the main bulkhead), then if you ever want to sell the boat you'll need documents to prove that you own her.

The SSR (Part III) registration is a waste of time (except for waving at foreign officials), and doesn't prove anything, so it won't help you even if you did register there.

You need to find the last owner and get him to sign a Bill of Sale.
