Shipping water from prop shaft

Hi out and about on my Antares Fly yesterday and on my return to the pontoon there was around 2 litres of water in the lazaret which on closer inspection might be coming from the pro shaft seal. I'm a Nubie when it comes to this but hope maybe someone out there might have had a similar experience. Engine is Volvo penta D6 370. Thanks

Hi. I have looked further on the forum and the prop shaft seal is Volvo penta standard and when I squeezed the seal it leaked but I guess it's designed to do this as it's part of the burping process so I need to look further if the seal is leaking whilst at higher revs. I also found that the foot valve fitted to the bilge pump was open and allowing sea water to enter the pipe whilst underway. When I took a closer look sea water was dripping from the foot valve. I guess water can enter through the outlet and as in my case the valve was allowing sea water to flow in through the outlet. Will need to check further.

AFAIK Volvo Penta do not make stern seals forD6.

What is a foot valve.

What is the boat model and year, when was the stern-gland last changed?

D6 would probably have a water cooled stern-seal Tides marine etc. This would be supplied form the engine seawater cooling system and flow out through the stern tube cutless bearing.

Hi bandit thanks for the input. Photos hopefully showing prop seal and foot valve.
This is a one way valve the strainer has to face downwards to be sure its closed
I think that it was laying flat across the bilge hence allowing water ingress. It was my assumption that the seal was leaking as water discharged from the seal when squeezed but knowledge being a wonderful thing found that this is the burping process.

Had my engineer look at the problem and his view is that its not from the shaft seal. So I have to keep looking. I have posted a further thread on this elsewhere on the forum.
