I have run into a transportation problem:

Hempel UK mixed 5 litres of paint for me to match my topsides but, as they are not allowed by company rules to export, I had this paint shipped to a friend in Exeter planning to have it then shipped on to me in Sicily - and no, Hempel Italy was not willing / able to mix this paint for me. Unfortunately, and too late, I discovered that neither Parcel2Go nor ParcelMonkey are willing to ship paint, not even by road - paint being on their prohibitive list.

Hempel UK put me in contact with a local shipping company they use but so far no answer to my shipping request.

Does anybody have a contact to a courrier who would assist?
Is anybody driving by car from the UK to Sicily / Italy and would be willing to bring these 5 litres?

If all else fails and you get really stuck for transport, consider looking at one of the ex-pat forums..eg: Britsabroad or Britishexpats or similar. Purely by chance I discovered that a new storm sail I was waiting for could be delivered to Spain in half the time taken by a commercial firm, by a regular "van run" by a Spanish resident Brit who advertised van space on a forum. It went Poole to Torrevieja along with someones furniture..;)

I use either http://www.interparcel.com/ or http://www.wedelivertheworld.com/

you don't need an account, you just put in the size, weight and destination you want, and they instantly provide a list of options.
one of which will be by road. I shipped paint no problem.
But if you are worried, spray paint the tin brown, and declare it as 'coating' or something.
But whatever, pack it sealed in a knotted carrier bag, inside a stout box surrounded by lots of kitchen towel

Why? is Italy so far behind civilisation that they have to import N European paint?

Ignorant peasants those eyeties.

grfff

I'm sure you're neither a member of UKIP or intended the remark in anything other than jest - however may I point out that Italy has a thriving paint industry (by some industry figures they produce more than the UK) and the OP gave us an hint by saying that Hempel had mixed the paint to match their topsides.

I'm afraid that, unless he can find someone willing to break the law, he will find no means of transporting inflammable-solvent paints in standard containers.
A sobering thought for those of us who have thought of taking our own antifoul to our boats in France/Greece/Spain/Portugal (strike out those countries inapplicable), as all countries have similar regulations.

Yes, but for most substances like paint there is an 'exempt' limit below which you don't need to declare dangerous goods nor conform to the regualtions for the carriage of them. In this instance, the amount to OP is trying to move is well below the exemption limit but he falls foul of the usual courier policies of refusing to accept dangerous goods at all. White van man is probably the best answer in these circumstances.

Pack it properly according to the rules, unless you can manage having killed someone on your conscience.

If you can't do it get a dangerous goods packer to prepare it. They could probably supply the name of a suitable dangerous goods carrier.

Depending on the paint, it may be dangerous goods in limited quantites, which puts a different position on it. You will need a DGSA to do the despatch note

A word on this, If as i suspect your paint is under ADR regs, If you a caught carrying it on Eurotunnel without infoming them, you will be in deep ****. yes i know its a small amount, but even limited quanties fall under regs. Same rules apply to the boats. If you give my the UN and PG group, i will happily check it out for you.

If this paint is ADR, i would recommend using a groupage service, it will cost you more, but you will be legal.
