Worked for P&O for a bit. The ops centre is more commonly known as the bridge. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Shore staff did occasionally ring or turn up, but it was usually just to pester rather than inform. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Depends upon the size of the company but..

Most shipping Co's will have the following in the Ops dept:
Safety manager
Ship superintendent
Secretary

There are other departments ashore but much dependent on the type of ships and size of company and whether the company owns or manages it's own ports or berths, such as (not in any particular order).....

Purchasing (repairs and maintenence)
Booking
Check-in (Passenger)
Freight (ro-ro)
Personnel
Finance
Insurance
Product Development
Onboard Guest Services (Passenger)
Engineering (port)
Security
Advertising

...to name but a few,...... hope this helps
