from today's Times : "A scottish skipper was fined £8000 for sailing the wrong way down the world's busiest shipping lane. George Wood,44, of Ayr incorrectly steered his fishing boat for 17 miles down the southwest traffic lane of the English Channel in October last year,Folkestone magistrates' court was told"

Serve the idiot right too. Doing that is like coming along the wrong side of a motorway. The Masters of vessels have enough to worry about without Pratts like that.

Loook at http://www.mcagency.org.uk - Maritime & coastguard agency site - they list prosecutions, impoundings etc - makes fascinating, if hair raising reading - the amazing thing is how common this offence seems to be. Some listed as having travelled miles and miles "in the wrong lane". Considering that we were taught about this even at dayskipper level you've got to wonder about the guys who commit the offences qualifications....

Title reminded me of an old Tommy Cooper gag. Went something like...

"I got complimented on my driving today. I got back to my car and someone had left a note under the windscreen wiper which said 'Parking fine', so that was nice".
