Out of idle curiousity - what is the greatest distance that any one has picked up the BBC shipping forecast on long wave (198 kHz) ?
Was this on a special aerial ?

West of La Coruna with domestic radio linked to mast top aerial.

It was just readable half way between Lisbon and Canaries. Radio is a Lowe HF150 with a back-stay aerial. Unfortunately the shipping forecast for Trafalgar is (or was) only given at midnight, at which time the interference from African stations was at its worst. It was clearer by day.

Straits of Gibraltar at night (it was the only R4 broadcast that included sea area Trafalgar so we didn't try during the day).

Yes, we've managed it in Gib, but we assumed it was re-broadcast or boosted for the locals. Anyone know it that's the case?
