Hi all

This is the time of the year when my hull requires its dose of antifouling /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I live in the South of France and after looking around, I have found that the prices for antifouling are very high. About 40% if not more depending on where you look.

So I did some online search and found the same references in the UK but the problem I am facing is... Shipping.

Antifouling is classed as dangerous goods so ordinary courriers cannot be used. Has anybody looked into doing what is mentioned above and is there any reasonable solution other than biting the bullet and going with the local suppliers ?

Many thanks.

Happy sailing.

OK, just yesterday I was informed that anti-fouling sent from a UK distributor last week to Spain for me was stopped in the UK for this very reason, despite the distributor assuring me it would be OK.

I then contacted another distributor as was told the same, its just too much cost/bother.

Many do get away with it by sending from home and not designating the cargo as dangerous goods!

Dangerous Goods!!! What a load of twadle. It is a can of paint. What is this world comming to? Health and safety rubish.

However I am afraid it is true. You can not easily send it. A couple of years back I had to send two pallets of boat gear to a yard in Slovenia where my new boat was to be commisioned. Belive it or not the lifejackets were considered "dangerous goods". Even with the cylinders packed seperatly. I found an easy fix though. I took them with me on the aeroplane. Here they were not "dangerous goods". You can have 1 jacket with I think 2 spare cylinders in checked bagage. But you must tell the airline in advance.

The whole thing is just pathetic. What is this wold comming to? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks for the replies... I am in touch with a gentleman at Gael force Chandlery who explained that there was maybe a way to have it shipped by train/boat rather than "air mail".

Anyway, he is looking into it so if I hear anything, I will let you all know as this could save us all, a fair deal of money.

Still happy to receive more ideas though /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
