I am selling an outboard that weighs 104kg overall length 1450mm (bigger than a standard pallet) and said in the ad buyer to collect. Problem is that the only potential buyers can't or won't collect for various reasons and ask about shipping but I imagine it would be a lot of hassle and expense getting it prepared for shipping and packed.
Anybody have any experience or advice to offer?

Thanks Graham, unfortunately most likely buyer is about 400 miles away, I don't have wheels, just a boat. Do you think "White Van Man" would do long distance?

Some white van men will go anywhere, others have regular routes. There are websites where you can enter up what you need delivering and receive quotes, one here - Cheap Goods Delivery - Shiply Be very careful to insure the engine yourself though, carrier's insurance is sometimes based on weight not value and some will lie about cover.

Get a pallet longer than standard?
Make an extension to a standard? Add a couple of beams?
Use an old table turned upside down?

Manufacturers use cradles.
Could you make or buy?

Yes i have advice: Don't let them make it your problem. From the fact that you have multiple potential buyers, it appears that you have an attractive offering at attractive price. You stated buyer to collect, so stand firm on that. People will try it on, but you don't have to make this your problem. If they don't like it, give them negative reviews as time wasters and re list ....

Another vote for Shipley ,they transported a engine over 120 kg from up north to Cornwall for me last year , and provided that you are flexible with collection and delivery was not a bad price ,from memory about £75 .

A standard Oversize pallet is 2.4m by 1.0m this will easily take an outboard. Tell your buyers.
I used them regularly for sending large control panels that have to lie on their back for safe transport.

Problem isn't size. If there's any petrol vapour smell the driver will refuse to pick up.
