They don't.

But it's so long since you've had one you've forgotten that it's all sunshine, Force 3 to 4, sea state smooth to slight, and comely maidens draped about the foredeck, as your boat slices through the turquoise water, headed for the palm trees on the horizon that identify the white sand fringed islet you'll have to yourselves.

Honest!
The comely maiden on the helm of our boat demands that Chiara is suitably shiny. Theres not much stainless, but that gets de stained and wiped down, and the topsides and coachroof get gently cut back if needed, and waxed, twice a year. I use a cordless drill and polishing bonnet, as we have no access to shore power, and do not spend time ashore.

I've been polishing the stainless on our cruiser with Peek polish. So far it's coming up great. I've done the canopy flexible windows a couple of times with Meguiars Plastx which seems to work well. I'll machine polish the gelcoat the next time she comes out for the winter.

I bought a polishing mop for a drill and the green stuff, wax?
Polished a stanchion, probably 1st time ever in the 40 years life of my boat. It came up like new.
Now i sit in the cockpit looking at the one shiny bit thinking "yes it works" having lost interest.
Could it be that very expensive boats are polished, cheaper are not?
Being on a swinging mooring is also a reasonable excuse for never having cleaning gear with me ;)

Ours isn’t overly expensive, but she looks a lot more so after being waxed
