Managed it on last boat but this one has saildrive with folding prop. Prop blades have to be removed to expose prop locking nut so when heaving on socket tommy bar shaft can't be locked. A bang on end of bar with a sledge just bounces the whole leg around on its diaphragm. I need prop hub off to replace saildrive anode which has nearly gone. Any tips?

Ok if it is a folding prop...
Put a socket with ext bar on the nut after flattening out the tab washer. Hold the bar/socket in place with one hand, insert one prop blade into the hub as far as it will go (in the prop open position)
Use a length of timber to wedge the prop blade (between the prop blade and the ground at a helpful angle) to stop the hub turning and undo the nut. It maybe helpful to get a freind to hold the blade and timber while you undo the nut

Tightening is the opposite, and do grease the splines of the sail drive before you put the hub back on.

I use the flat end of a wrecking bar placed across the hub and then brace it against some wood placed vertically against the hull or ground. Alternatively use two thin pieces of suitable metal (flat bar, files etc). Brace one against the hull and one against the ground using suitable lengths of wood. This provides a more even brace. I locate the socket on the nut first so that the thinner extension bar gives enough space for the braces to fit in. You may need four hands.

I hope that makes sense. It won't if your propeller is completely different from mine.

Got another 11 days before enough rise of tide to go on scrubbing dock again. A friend of a friend can bring a pneumatic driver down so I'll have that as an option as well
