OK we often get sent bits and bobs to test and write about here in the YM office. For some reason the kind (???) people at Shewee have sent everyone in the office a Shewee.

For those of you not au fait with the Shewee it's a bit of plastic that enables women to pee standing up, "An essential for female boaters" apparently.

"essential |iˈsen sh əl|
adjective
1 absolutely necessary; extremely important"

Yet somehow my wife managed to 3 months on a yacht without ever needing to pee off the side, so one could argue whether it really is "essential for female boaters"

Any how......

"Dear Graham," the letter starts
"I'm writing to let you know about Shewee - the portable urinating device for women."

First off, I'm a man, my name is Graham, I've never met a woman called "Graham", so why do I or any of the other seven men that work for Yachting Monthly really want a female urinating device? No, we couldn't work out why either.

I have a wife, it's true, but she has never felt the need to squat over a bucket or hang off the back of the boat, we have a toilet for that sort of thing. and I doubt my lovely wife would speak to me for some time if I were to take this home and ask her to test it.

Anyway, we have a number of the bloody plastic shewees in the office, so if anyone (preferably female) would like to test one for Yachting Monthly. PM me with your address and I'll pop one the the post.

[Edit: Now all sent out, our office is sheweefree again :D ]

Snooks, you've just made my afternoon, trying not to laugh relentlessly at the desk...

Was it not Duncan Bannatyne that said "I can't invest in this, as i'll forever after be known as "The Shewee man"? :D

After the 'Boat Crash Test' series, staff at Yotting Monthly are challenged to come up with interesting new products to test....

I give you the Spinlock Caribbean Foredeck Survival Aid:

My step-granny was notorious for having and using such a "device" while racing on my grandad's boat. That would have been the 70s or early 80s.

Drop-seat waterproof trousers + bucket, works for me. Can sort of see how one of these things might come in handy for shy girls but imagine it would require some practice before using in heavy conditions.......

I did see a feature in an Australian magazine about a lady sailor who has a bit of guttering pipe, decorated in an Aborigine stylee decoration on it. It's about 1m long and she uses that to pee over the side, she's called it her Didyouweetoo:rolleyes:

Yes that is true.

Not sure if you're being ironic here, but Dragon's Den was the first place it was seen in the UK, no-one invested...:p

The Shewee has an entire shelf to itself in our local Go Outdoors store, so it seems to be popular to some at least!

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that using one of these on a moving deck would almost infallibly result in a wet trouser leg.

On the other hand, reading the SheWee website has made for a happy quarter of an hour - I'm hesitating between a pair of X-fronts ("These gorgeous hotpants really do encourage the wearer to stand up & take control") & a Ploo ("The stool in a stool").

Good Grief, I am not surprised! A shelf to itself, is that because no one else wants their products near it! I must ask Mrs Morven's comments on this product tonight, for a number of years she thought I had a bladder of steel (Q&T 800) as she never realised what I was doing when I went up to check the set of the genoa!!:D

Jeeze - just when I thought I'd seen everything...

Reminds me of the 'relief tube' fitted to some Spitfires etc; one had to be very careful at cold high altitudes, or one's 'equipment' would freeze stuck on the copper funnel !

Is this not standard in all military aircraft? (well, except those large enough to get up and walk around in)

Something similar is standard in all (as far as I know) armoured vehicles. That has a rubber bag with a chrome funnel on top and a tap on the bottom, so you can pass it to whoever needs it. The tap then plugs into a fitting through which it's emptied out of the bottom of the vehicle.

I guess any ladies under armour (must be a few in Artillery, REME, medical, etc) would need to add one of Snooks's devices :)
