Shetland 498 in Chichester Harbour?

Another place to consider is the slip at Northey Marina. This allows access at all states of the tide, probably less hassle car parking or traffic wise. Plus quieter part of the harbour therefore less fraught kimakarzi dinghy traffic wise, untill you get use to the new boat. Radio even if only hand held a smart move.

will look in to a radio handheld. boat hasnt got 12v as motor only supplies ac power to navigation lights. was thinking of getting 12v but will wait till i can afford a bigger engine maybe after the new year.

will look up northney on google earth. thanks

it may sound im stuck on itchenor but its just that its the nearest to me to launch and my husband used to do all the towing and launching and i need more practice so didnt want to drive it too far but even if i cant launch this weekend because of the waether i'll get the boat out of storage and practice my driving and reversing with it.
thanks all for such a warm welcome to your forum.

i launched the boat from itchenor and took her up to apuldram and on the way back i handed the boat over to my neighbour whilst i faffed around qwith the canopy and he hits the edge of a sand bar opposite chichester marina and it wont restart and eventualy got it restarted and it died again a few mins later so we put on the aux engine and there was very little room on the transom so i tried to steer and got a bit heavy handed and snapped the tiller arm so had to call out the harbour patrol boat to tow us back to itchnor and they even helped put the boat back on the trailer.
i felt a real idiot and am annoyed with my neighbour for not looking properly.
i will now have to take the engine to a dealer near the mariner called lansdale i think and may find out how much its worth agains part exchange on a bigger and newer used engine.. an eventful day i think

Yeah, boating is often like that - especially at the start. Don't feel daft or be annoyed - just work out the lessons & LEARN THEM!

Not sure why the engine would stop from a simple grounding, but the cooling water intake may have got blocked by mud/ sand.

If you cant fit an echo sounder buy a chart at least that will show you the areas to stay away from. I wouldent bother buying a £50 hand held radio. I was going to hire a speedboat in Spain and was horrified to find that the hire company did not fit any, people use Mobile Phones.

i got a mobile signal no problem so will see how it goes.

what i need now is a bigger engine as the other day against wind and tide we were making about 5mph which was worrying, so does anyone know a trusty outboard dealer that can fit a good used 25-40hp with remotes for £1100-1300. pref with a warranty for a few months. i realize at this price it will be a 2stroke but not worried about fuel usage just reliability

meant to say the engine sucked up sand and mud and blocked the tell tale plus when the prop hit the bottom the engine got jolted violently and snapped a fuel fitting and ruptured a line but i fixed that myself as my hubby taught me to be self reliant as possible and have had it running in a wheelybin for 2hrs this morning and all was fine but i need a new engine as there isnt enough room for an aux on the transom

it just feels so slow. i know i cant plane in the harbour but eventually will want to leave the harbour after some training. i wnt to go to IoW or round to littlehampton.
i want something newer and reliable. i know it was our fault the engine went kaput over the weekend and now fixed so not in a rush to upgrade but will look localy

Ah Okay.

When I first had a boat in Chichester Harbour, I was forever dinging my prop on something or other. Took me ages to get up the courage to go out over the bar to sea but well worth it.:)

no tangible advice other than to suggest you've missed a cheeky forum name opportunity...
