Just wanted to say we broke down at South Stoke on Thursday, and got the guys at Sheridan Marine to have a listen (6 year old 5 cyl Nanni 62hp sounding like a bag of nails rattling inside) and despite being close closing, they spent a hour & a half checking it over, phoning the Nanni supplier for tests to do, giving great service.

Also apologies to anybody behind us yesterday as we made our way very slowly back to Hurley using our wing engine.

Problem not resolved, the Nanni Agent local to us (Dean at Aqyatec at Val Wyatts), plus the Freebodys engineers hopefully will start looking. Runs but with loud metal clacking noise, both the Sheridan guy & Jon at Freebodys listened in, interesting to see this done with a hammer etc placed on parts of the engine like a doctors stethoscope (sp?) to see if they could hear where it's coming from. Suspicion is that it's fuel related, and top cylinder doesn't seem to be firing, with the second cylinder also suspect, so replacing injectors an option. Also they will get the rocker arm off to ensure the springs aren't broken nor push rods etc. Also found the threaded bar that tensions the lower alternator snapped, initially thought it was this that was causing the noise, but alas no.

Hopefully the head won't have to come off, but if they don't find something....

Looking like an engine out job; no compression on No.1 cylinder (see post on PBO Forum). Did hope a set of injectors would cure it until told about the compression.

Jeez! engine out? that's bad news. Is it hard to do that on your boat. Is it impossible to fix it without all that extra palaver?

The engineers say whilst possible, may actually be more difficult/more man hours than removing engine. I'm still crossing fingers/clutching at straw hoping it will be resolved without the engine out though.
