Hello

I was wondering if anyone had any experience taking a Sheerline 950 or similar off the Thames onto the Kennet and Avon? According to published dimensions it should be possible but wondered if anyone had personal experience?

Have taken a similar Cruiser as far as Newbury but it had an outdrive, one issue is draft and fouling the prop and how do you clear it, outdrive easy just lift it up, narrowboats have weedhatches your sheerline will be a bit tricky if you pick something up.
Air draft through Reading is tight but if you can get under Osney you should be ok, some of the locks are a bit of pain in a cruiser the turf side ones in particular, getting on and off in the lock isn't easy need a good crew and its easier to just hover in the middle of the lock and hold it on the engine at some, don't shut the engine down as you would in a Thames lock. Get loads of fenders canals are not grp friendly.
