I have a Hood Stowaway mast (12 years old) and the sheave arrangement at the base of the mast seems a bit rubbish to me. The question is, was this origonal or someone elses botch.

In the photo you can see the outhaul sheave is attached by 8 (yes 8 !!!) bolts, via this chunky plate. ( I hope the photo appears!!!!
Anyway the plate is flat and the mast profile is round. I am trying to find out if this was the origonal design or whether some clutser added this in at a later date, in which case what did the origonal look like?
Any help would be greatfully recieved. Any other yachts that have this system? I dont think they are made anymore!!!
cheers,
