Did you catch the biography of H. Ryder Haggard on BBC4 last night? I always thought SWMBO was derived from Rumpole of the Bailey but John Mortimer, its author, said he got it from Haggard's "She". SWMBO is the mysterious cloaked woman whom no man dare disobey. My wife's getting ideas.
