I have just purchased an S&S SHE 27 called Baruch. I am after some history of the boat and the class. I believe the boat was sailed singlehanded to the med in the recent past and is relativly well known? I hope she will perform well under sail and be a bit safer than my last boat (1/4 tonner runaway bus). Also does anyone have any ideas for mounting the gas in the stern locker, the current configuration is inside the boat and im not to happy with it!

Thanks

James

I built a stainless steel box into the rear locker of mine and installed the cylinder there. Didnt bother with making it drain overboard, but shouldnt be too hard. You have made a great choice of boat. I sold mine a couple of years ago to get "headroom" and have regretted it just about every day since. She was fantastic to sail, as stiff as a church, had the row away factor and very well built.
You will have problems researching the class though, there is no owners association, the S & S association is no good and googling never got anywhere. Shame really, as there is lots of SHEs about.
Good luck

Well if there is no website I may as well make one for all the SHE boats. Im looking forward to getting over to holland next summer, and also considering doing the jester having done a transat short handed this summer.

She-She is still around up here on the Clyde. Did do some serious offshore racing up until two years ago and her results were always good- including competing when the going got tough in the North Channel races.

I have a Builder's catalogue on the She 27 from the late 70's, along with copies of a couple of boat reports from YM and YW - the catalogue is rather basic (4 pages in B & W), but if you (or anybody else) would like copies of these, just send me a PM and I will scan it and email the copies to you.
