We're contemplating heading up to Sharpness and into the canal on Saturday with a view to overnighting - anyone got any good recommendations on places to stop? I'm assuming the tide will be high enough, just about to study the cruising notes to check!

hi,

the tides always high enough, aim to arrive one hour before to hw. as for places to stop theres loads, if your looking for a close pub theres the patch, frampton, the pilot, others are a bit of a trek, the dockers at sharpness is good value for money but no food on sundays. i think you'll have to pay a 50 squid locking fee and a temporary licence of about 13. oh and you'd better book now or you won't get in 01453 511968 although my mate is goin from portishead 2mo (korbel) so you could always tag on. it's good fun bein pushed and turned by the eddies and races.

yeh it is a bit steep for a night, you'd be better off havin a few days and comin up the river to, have a word with sneds and who and do a cruise in company.lol. dnt know about fuel tbh, our marina is 80ppl with our discount, i buy it in bulk now at 40ppl and jerry can it down. how much is it down there?

I'm not actually sure exactly how much it is @ Portishead, I'm still on the tank from Swansea. General rumblings round the marina is it's expensive.

Definite lack of enthusiasm from swmbo, might rethink this. At tleast we have lots of choices this weekend. Trouble is I think we will have to bring dog too, dog baby sitter unavailable this WE.

Changed plans! Looks like Penarth in the afternoon after boat maintenance in the morning, Sunday over to Weston to collect daughter.

Maintenance - I have boat porn (owners and workshop manuals for AD41 's thanks to another forumite) Discovered lots of stuff I should have done!
