Sharpness to Gloucester

Is it the 'Rivers Only' licence that is required for us to navigate Sharpness to Gloucester?

You will need to add a canal short term licence to your river one. Not too expensive. I have always bought mine from the locky in Gloucester but from this year they are sold in the waterways museum.

We had a week on the Sharpness canal last year and only needed a canal licence to travel Sharpness to Gloucester Docks. We purchased on line which cost us £46 for the week for a 14mtr FB.

I do agree. but then the number of sea arrivals for first licencing must be so small, so it is up to you to work it out.

Last year we were charged £25 each way to lock through Sharpness

No , thats another £15 return but that is 'special' rate

I'm sure we paid £50, lock in from "seaward" a week on the canal and river and lock out again
Got as far as Upton, it rained, bought a whistling kettle, spent a night in the marina to get a hot shower and came back again
Wouldn't Rush back to be honest but the super fuel economy at 4 rather than 24 kts more than made up for the
50 quid

The £15 is special rate for the organised cruise in company each easter. Doing it alone would be £50.

Yeah. Its well worth joining the Easter cruise in company, especially for those who have never done that area. Too late for this year but worth remembering for the future.

Whilst everyone is here talking about this then if you feel the charging is inflexible then consider signing this petition is setup. I want to get 100 signatures to show the trustees of the Canal Trust that they need to get off their bums and make the charging scheme flexible for all users as opposed to just long term canal boats.

The ombudsman said he won't do anything as fees are not in his remit even though he agreed that the charging structure for sea boats wishing to visit for a short period of time was disproportionate and likely not update as it would require the Trustees to attend more meetings and paperwork to amend.
