Does anyone know where we can get spares for a Sharp Seapilot - it's a rather robust autopilot for wheel steering - but it's suddenly stopped working. Could be the brushes in the motor - could be who knows what. All suggestions gratefully received!

Sharp pilots stopped production in the '70's or thereabouts. There was a few companies around who looked after them for a while.

They are rather agricultural internally, so a check with a meter willnormally get to the roo of the problem, however fxing it may be another thing. A large number if not all the "off the shelf" components including the motor and bruhes are likely to not be available any more, so you might need to either be creative or invest in a new shiny replacement.

Sharp & Company Seapilot Remote Control Wiring

I have one from the late 70's. The remote has a couple wires pulled from the roatary switch. Any way to find which terminals to solder the blue and green wires to. I only see two previously soldered connecters but I don't know which goes where. Would it be hazardous to do trial and error? Red and whites are connected OK to the Pot.

I have a complete sharp oceanpilot, but for hydraulic steering, the brain is different for mechanical steering, howver the control box is the same, if you want it, your welcome. Before it gets thrown away, repalvced it with a raymnarine one as the brain is kaput!

Sharp Sea and Ocean Pilots

Do you thinks parts would cross over? Would it just be the binnacle sensor that is different? Mine has the lightweight mechanical drive unit. If the control unit is the same at least I can swap parts and the remote should plug in. I may be a bit overly optimistic about getting this one running but it is a good winter project to try and solder a few wires.

It would need to get shipped to BC Canada. Where are you?

I have a complete manual includingh wiring diagrams although they are pretty cryptic as to where connections physically occur. Do you have a remote control that is in one piece? I'm having trouble deciphering the wiring diagrams and my remote unit has a couple wires broken off internally.

RE Sharp

Hi Jmitchell
Would it be at all possible to have a scanned copy of your Manuel?I don't have a remote control with my bits and I have just found the compass has some internal wires adrift but might be able to put them back.
Thank you BOB.

Scanned Seapilot Manual

Let me see how much work it's going to be to get it scanned and get back to you. Maybe I can just scan important sections as a bunch is sure to be standard intro stuff.

Sharp Sea Pilot Main Wiring Diagram

Hi Bob,
Here is the main wiring diagram. I also have a couple more pages of chassis and circuit board parts that helps relate the wiring diagram to the physical layout that I will scan and post. I've had some success in figuring it out since I last looked at it as I've read in the text that my remote is actually the variable resistor VR10 on the wiring diagram so maybe there is some hope yet. Let me know an email if you want a higher resolution copy as some of the detail on the diagram may get lost at the low resolution I can post here.
Sincerely,
Jim

Sharp Seapilot Parts Lists and Diagrams

Parts lists and diagrams for chassis and main, signal and secondary circuit boards. There are also ones for the bulkhead mount remote control and the remote control relay for a second steering station.
