Reading the thread about ferry timetables it seems there is a lot of demand to find the best way to get to Preveza boat yards. I was wondering if any one wanted to share transport and so reduce costs. Am flexible about where to fly to, Patras has very cheap flights, downside is it is 3 hours from Preveza and only fly from Stanstead. Corfu also has reasonably priced flights but does mean a taxi, ferry trip, then a taxi, bus or hire car. Athens is another option.
Would any one be interested in collaborating to try and get the best/cheapest way to get to Preveza. We are flexible and would be looking to get to Preveza for the end of April – beginning of May.
If people are we can look at flights etc to try and work out best way forward

It's several years since we were in the preveza yards, so I may be a bit out of date. I expect that Cleopatra will still have the minibus ,so why not ask them if they would be willing to do a deal to come and collect you from either Athens or Igomenitsa If you can get together with another eight or ten and split the cost,it might work out a good deal all round.
Only a thought!?

Have just got a reply from taxi firm re transfer from Araxos, price is high at 420 euros, but that would take 4 people, so 110 each. Not cheap but when you factor in the flight at £12 each, plus taxes and baggage does not work out so unreasonable, certainly cheaper than Preveza, which does not start until 5-6 May.

James good idea re Cleopatra, we are in Aktio so do not know if they would be interested, if we get sufficient numbers to justify a minibus will make an enquiry anyway - thanks again - Neil (J.B.)

Snap. I was thinking the same thing and wondering how the forum could assist in linking people up to share transport.

For instance a shared taxi between Athens and Prevaza boat yards. It is too late for me to synch because I am booked EJ 14 march from Gatwick 0900 flight but would be a great service for the future.

Perhaps a pinned sticky post somehow.

Via Corfu

This year we shall again fly into Corfu airport on the evening of 23rd april and walk to a local hotel for the night (E60 approx). Next morning we shall take a taxi to the port (E12 approx) and ferry to Iggy ((E10 each approx) and catch the 11.30 bus to Levkas and get off as we come out of the tunnel at Aktio (E10 each approx). Then walk to the boat for lunch 13.30-14.00. As long as we are on the ferry before 09.00, we shall have time to get a few supplies in Iggy to last till shopping trip to Preveza next day. So, about E60 each including the hotel and all fairly relaxed.

Seems one of the best options, may well go for it as well

Building in that hotel stay overnight makes long or infrequent Greek bus trips suddenly far more acceptable. We enjoy our €50 overnight in Syntagma, Athens, a lot. Just an express bus ride from the airport. Then next morning a €12 taxi to Kiffissou bus station. 5hr on a bus is then quite acceptable.

...fly into Corfu airport on the evening of 23rd april and walk to a local hotel for the night...

We've done this trip in reverse a couple of times - if you're heading to/from oop north, then it's easier & cheaper to travel at the Greek end and get a flight from Corfu to Leeds/Teeside/Newcastle, rahter than departing/arriving at a softy southern airport like Stanstead or Gatwick.

A bit out of date, but I doubt if the principal's changed: If timings allow it, staying at a hotel in Igoumenitsa is about 2/3 the price of one in Corfu Town and will also save you a taxi fare too; Corfu airport direct to/from the ferry is no more than to a hotel in Corfu town and the Ig Hotels are within 200m of the ferry & Levkas Bus-stop.

Thanks for all the above info, we decided to go with the Corfu route as recommended by Happydaze, many thanks for this.

For those interested in the Patras route we did find a taxi firm, thanks to Atkio boat yard, that would take up to 4 people from the airport to the Preveza boat yards direct for 250 euros (about £60 each). When you factor in the cost of the flight (at that time 12 euros plus taxes, baggage etc) this was not a bad deal when you consider it is door to door (transfer time around 1 1/2 hours). However we decided against it as only flew from Stanstead, which is difficult to get to for us.

Like you we tend to fly Easy Jet Bristol Corfu but now there is a Monday flight leaving @ 13.40 there is no need to stay overnight in hotel as this one gets in at a sensible time.
Will just get the ferry to Iggy, pick up our one way hire car and be in Aktio by 22.00 ish sam day.
First flight out on 26th March was £31.99 + £9.00 for bits £ 41.00 quids , bargain of the year.
