Shakedown Cruise out of Ipswich

We take delivery of our new boat on the 4th May at Ipswich. Never sailed the East Coast (apart from Coastal Skipper out of the Crouch), so, suggestions are required for a first shakedown cruise.

Walton Backwaters, or should I be a bit more adventurous and head further south?

Or maybe head North?

It depends what you expect from a shakedown cruise.

If you want a gentle - getting to know the boat - cruise the possibilities are endless: Deben, Stour, Blackwaters, Brightlingsea, etc...

If the main purpose of your shakedown is "fault-finding" I would suggest something more adventurous, involving a longer bit of sailing/motoring in open sea. Lowestoft or Ramsgate.

You could fine your sway up the Deben on the Sunday evening and show off you new toy to those of us gathering there for a BBQ on the beach up at the Rocks

We took Full Circle to Ostend from Burnham on its launch weekend! Fortunately nothing went wrong. We did spend a LONGGGGG time sorting it before actually getting it wet though.

Clives' suggestion is the one to go for. Lots of admiring peeps to offer opinions, offer help etc..
