Shaft Seal

Hi,

My shaft seal (pictured) is lubricated via an oil reservoir with feed to the shaft. There is then a neoprene/rubber collar aft of this.

Can anyone tell me what this type is called and whether is requires any maintentance, "burping" of the seal etc. I have never done anything to it in the 6 years of having the boat but I would like to know if routine maintenance is required.

The engine is a Volvo Penta 2002, raw water cooled.

I have the same one on my Moody 31.There is really no maintenance except to keep the oil topped up.When mine is out of the water is does drip some oil from the shaft and I get a few air bubbles in the see through hose.By careful bending I manage to get them to come to the top.
