Although my p bracket is bonded to the hull anode I have fitted a shaft anode as backup / to compensate for non-condutive bearing. Since doing this motoring seems a lot noisier at more than 1/2 revs - can the anode be balanced or is increased bearing wear an inevitable sffect of this.

Surely the bearing in the P bracket is non-conductive.
I wonder if the shaft anode has come loose.
I found that my shaft anode developed a layer of corrosion products between shaft and anode thus making it useless the second year.
An alternative to a shaft anode is a contactor gubbins with graphite brushes running on the prop shaft and connected to the main anode.

When I had a shaft drive I changed it every season for security as I too found with time erosion occurred between shat and anode.

In response to the originating comments, I found that if it became loose, the noise and vibration would be very distinctive. it appears that your symptoms are vibration and it may be that the anode is at fault. IMHO it could be that the anode moulding was not accurate an each half is slightly different in size and shape causing some vibration effect?

Regards.

Peter.

Sounds like the anode is loose - When you fit the shaft anode, you should clamp it up tight, the thump each half of the anode with a hammer and retighten the screws - do 2 or 3 times and it shouldn't come loose.
Make sure the shaft is clean first.

Also make sure it is at least 10mm away from the 'P' bracket. Make sure the shaft is clean first.
