Sorry I meant sexy as in 'cool'. I'm very pround of my slightly heath robinson solution to the shower issue.
Crew all say we need one but where to install in a 33 footer?
front heads were out as there is no space in bilges ( water tank there) it had had a showere there before but the water wouldnt run out of the shallow bilges and space was limited anyway.
The after cabin was more promising, water can go down into the deep bilge and then get pumped out. Not enough space in the heads itself for a decent sized shower so I fitted this curtain so as to use the passage and the heads compartment.
The curtain fits on a curtain wire held by 3 little hooks. It all detatches except for the 3 unobtrusive hooks.
For simplicity I have used a solar shower bag hung from the boom, I have added a watering can rose and garden switch. The head is held firmly in place with a ss ubolt simply pushed into 2 small holes in the hatch suround.
The area can be completly enclosed and there is a canvas 'lid' using the winter hatch cover.
The head element can be used on deck following one dip in the warm med.
The concept is just to give us the chance of a shower if we are away from amenities rather than a luxury solution. However once set up ( it takes 5mins) there is more space than in many 'luxury boat showers I have used ( Im working on the soap holder)

Sorry to disapoint you on the sexy bit but I had to get you to look somehow!!

68 hits in less than an hour on a bank Holiday monday when most will be off sailing. You should go into advertising when you achieve those hit rates :-)

Now I'm guessing here, but I suspect you may have trouble convincing the ladies to use this while you're on deck, what with the doors and all :D

showering on deck

When my son was about 15 (30 now) we were tied up next to a Belgian boat in Southwold - near the pub. About 7pm, the solo Belgian skipper came on deck, took all his clothes off and showered under a solar bag. The son was mortified. Not to be outdone, when the 2nd son was the same age we were tied up next to a French boat on the Vilaine. A lady sailor did the same trick. Just to add interest, when the 2nd son had finished blushing (abt 1/2 hr) below deck he emerged with his towel and went to step ashore. The temporarily naked lady's husband asked 'Oh - il y a des douches?'

The French and the Germans, among others, treat nudity very differently.

I came out of the shower in Brighton marina a few years ago. Some will know that there is a foyer, with the hooks for towels and clothes on the far wall. I came face to .......... with a nubile young lady dressed in a pair of knickers. Two steps and I reached the safety of my towel. I explained to her father that there were showers for ladies just next door. He looked at me in amazement and obviously had no idea why I was bothering to tell him.:o

I seem to recall that Brighton only has a loose fitting door between the rooms anyway, although I don't remember the requirement for wandering naked - they were individual bathrooms when I went.

Yes; all very well but what do you think of my wonderful shower??

I think I speak for the forum when I say - we can't really tell much without a model in there to show "scale". I'd suggest a female as they will make it look bigger (because they are smaller) :D

From now on I will title all my posts (for help and assistance) with the word "Sexy".

EG See my (now re-titled) post/call for help and suggestions regarding an Eber controller !

Nice Idea

I had hoped that it wouldnt be a problem. The shower is right over the deepest part of the bilge so I thought it would be in and and PDQ.
If it did become an issue then There is space there for a tray and pump.

Looks like you've done much with the space you have. Good show.

On a slightly more serious note... Just be sure that you flush some extra water thru that deep bilge to help clear out the soap film and hair before it builds up and hinders pump operation. That's the main problem with all of the showers that use the head compartment in boats of that size and smaller. (That and getting water splashes all over the cabinetry and into parts of the head compartment that are dedicated to dry storage.)

Going into the cockpit or on deck with the solar shower might be best, after all, if not encumbered by excessive modesty! A quiet anchorage somewhere would be better, perhaps...

+1
but now the serious question.
Looks like a porta- potti under the wash basin in the middle photo.
How does the geometry work with that?
Can you only squat as it were leaning well forward, or does the wash basin hinge up or slide back?
I am trying to get best solution to this on my own boat and trying to avoid Mrs Browns under stair wc where a down-trow outside the compartment followed by a squat and reverse hop is required.
I look forward to the response(s). (As a 1st generation kiwi born of British parents, i know there is nothing quite like toilet humour for you poms!:D)
Thanks

PS I do like the innovative thinking regards showering. Showering in the cockpit is all well and good but modesty/exhibitionism aside, even in summer in Godzone paradise of NZild, the evening or morning breezes can make this a less than pleasant option.

Yes it is a porta loo, another emergency measure!! We do have a sea toilet fwd so the porta loo is emergency harbour jobby !! With lady crew in the aft cabin we use it for number ones on the bucket and chuck principle but number 2s only in emergency and guilty party has to empty!!

The WHB and its little cabinet all slides back so non of that crouchy business, the hand basin also empties into the bilge
