My father has one of these plotters and has just finished installing it. It runs the Nauticpath chart for Western Europe. Could anyone give me a step by step "idiots" guide on how to get the plotter to access the nauticpath charts rather than just the preloaded world base map. He is in Scotland, I am in Gloucestershire hence the need for a very simple step by step guide. We both have a copy of the instructions but my father is a techophobe at the best of times so more "idiot" the better!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks all!!!!

click menu button scroll to map data the n check that the box
map choice has" lowrance" in it
presentation mode says "international"
if you go onto lowrance site you can download a 3600i onto your computer and simulate with it,i had a similar problem but once it accessed the charts all was ok,
i think that was all i had to do,i'll have another look to try and check

Once Lowrance is set on the menu - then any Lowrance / lcm / at5 chart card inserted will auto-load on start-up or insertion into card slot.

Be aware that the World Base Map is always there to load whenever card is removed / you trip outside chart coverage etc.

Manual says you should not insert / remove cards while in use ... I've never had trouble with this - as I have various route plans / data files to upload ... so cards in / out during operation. But that's me !!

The advice to download the simulator program is a good one - it really is worth it ... BUT regardless of what you hear - the chart card will not work in a common card reader with the simulator ..... you need the Lowrance Card reader ......

I use the simulator to check data files / route files / own drawn charts etc. It really is useful.

Arrrrrrr ...... hang on .......

Have you actually had this machine set-up and tracking Sats before ? Mine out of box had to be told where it was .... by having world map up ... you then scrolled using the arrow rocker button to your approximate position ... etc.

First I would do a Default reset via the MENU button ... you may have accidently done something daft !! I know I did !

So <Menu> <Menu> <Sytsem Setup> <reset Options> <yes>

Now switch off ... make sure card is in slot .... and switch on again. Make sure plotter is in view of sky and sats ... as you need to get a logon and fix.

So you've switched on ... now go <Menu> <Menu> <GPS Setup> <Initialize GPS> ...... follow the instructions ...... it will ask you to scroll to your approximate position on screen ... once close to position ... press <Enter> button and wait for it to lock-on ... You should have it showing card map now ... ?

The mapping is auto-loaded when you switch on ... you can see the little card icon come up when card is being read -bottom right corner over the top of the scale number ... If not - then either card or slot is faulty.

I would suggest finding another Lowrance user ... any of the GlobalMap series will read that card ... Note : If the card is a copy or damaged ... it will never work.

Not too much off subject I hope.
I have the 5150c and have bought a card reader which was advertised as; Lowrance PC Planner kit with SD/MMC reader enabling full chart viewing facilities and waypoint and route management. Navionics and N. Path
I have installed the card reader but am unable to view the maps etc.
Has anyone had better results than me or have I misunderstood the abilities of the unit?
Thanks
PS Where in Scotland is your Dad as my 5150c works with the Nauticpath SD card.

neil,

Assuming you have XP, then the following applies.... otherwise, you'll need to interpret for your own operating system...

Go to 'Start' then 'control panel' on your PC, and then to 'performance and maintenance', then 'system', then 'hardware', then 'device manager'... finally, click on the '+' by disc drives, and right click all the CF/card/USB disc drives bar the one for the Lowrance reader and select 'disable', and then it'll work...

Basically, the reader has a special bit of extra code that allows it to use the chart cartridges, and if any other card readers are active, then it seems to stop the Lowrance reader working.

Obviously you'll need to re-enable them if you want to use them for any other purpose, but to do so is easy... follow the same route and on the right click select 'enable' instead...

Hope that Helps... it took me ages to work that one out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I can see the AT5 files on the card from the reader but cannot do anything with them. It says that windows does not recognise the file.
I hope this makes sense.

Ah.... you need to download the emulator.... go to the Lowrance site, and you want the LMS332 emulator from here.... this will then work just like your 5150C but on your computer screen.... and will recognise and use the charts on the card....

You'll still need to disable any other card readers if you have them.....

Morgana,
I think I may be getting somewhere but still have been unable to select the map from the card with my "trails etc".
Is there a comprehensive set of instructions for all of this somewhere.
All I got with the card reader was installation instructions.
Thanks for your help, this is the first time it is starting to make sense so please excuse the basic questions.

There aren't any instructions for the card reader that I am aware of...

Do you have the 332 emulator installed yet?

If so, then it should automatically detect the charts on the card..

explain where you are up to, and lets see if we can diagnose your problem...

If at first you don't succeed.......
Still no success I'm afraid.
The card reader opens in windows showing the at5 files when I switch the emulator on but only the background map is shown on the screen.
Lost! in more ways than one.

Firstly, have you pressed the exit button on the emulator keypad to switch to the correct view (it'll show the USA road network on the wrong view)...

Secondly, it can take as long as 30 seconds for the correct charts to appear

Thirdly, what disc drives do you have showing in the 'device manager' as detailed above?

Also, have you installed the driver software than came with the card reader?

1. Yes, I have it showing UK.
2. Even after a few minutes nothing is changing.
3. There is the USB disc drive which appears to be the MMC reader and ST98...... which I presume is the hard drive as it does not have a disable option
4. Drivers installed
Still no joy...........

OK...

things to try...

1] If you have a different USB port, try it in that

2] boot the machine, and then plug the reader in

3] boot the machine with the reader already plugged in

4] Reinstall the driver

5] upgrade the driver....the appropriate ones are here

After that, its probably down to getting a bit of manufacturer/importer support.....

I think I've tried most of these but will give it another go. If it still isn't working I will go and bother someone else.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
